What to know before comparing pizza ovens
A few things are worth understanding before comparing pizza ovens side-by-side.
Indoor vs. outdoor: an indoor electric oven plugs into household power and needs no propane tank, wood supply, or outdoor space — but it tops out at a lower maximum temperature and smaller pizza size than most outdoor ovens. Outdoor ovens (gas, wood, multi-fuel) generally reach higher temperatures and fit larger pizzas, but need patio or backyard space and, for wood/charcoal models, more hands-on fire management.
Gas vs. wood/charcoal vs. electric: gas is the most convenient outdoor fuel — it lights quickly and needs no tending. Wood and charcoal add real smoky flavor but require monitoring the fire throughout the cook. Electric ovens are the most convenient overall, but generally run cooler than gas or wood-fired ovens. A few electric ovens add a wood-pellet smoke box purely for flavor — the pellets aren't the heat source, so an oven's marketing name isn't always a reliable guide to how it's actually powered or classified.
Multi-fuel ovens let you switch between fuels (often wood/charcoal as the default with an optional gas attachment, or the reverse), trading some added cost or setup complexity for flexibility.
Pizza size and maximum temperature both matter, but temperature alone doesn't determine results — an oven's insulation, floor material, and airflow design all affect how evenly and consistently it cooks, not just how hot it can get.
Portability and footprint vary widely, from countertop electric ovens and packable portable gas ovens to large premium multi-fuel ovens that are meant to stay in one place. Consider how much counter or patio space you actually have, and whether you want to take the oven with you.
